Located in the capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh Airport is the busiest airport in the country as it handled more than 9 million passengers in 2009. Additionally, it ranks as the seventh busiest airport in the United Kingdom. The airport offers flights to nearly 100 destinations via more than 20 airlines. Some of the airlines include BMI, Continental Airlines, Flybe, Jet2.com, Monarch Airlines, and Ryanair. Flight destinations are local and international, including to places outside of Europe.
The airport is situated about 8 miles from the centre of Edinburgh, and can be easily reached by roads such as A8 Glasgow Road, M8 and M9 motorways. There are plenty of parking lots available at the airport grounds. There aren’t any train services available at Edinburgh airport, but buses and taxis can connect to Waverley and Haymarket rail stations, which are both located at the city centre. Passengers should take the Airlink 100, N22, and Service 35 buses between the airport and train stations.
The terminals at Edinburgh Airport often get crowded, but fortunately there are places where passengers can escape to find some relaxation before their flights. The Servisair Executive Lounge, BA Terraces Lounge, BMI Diamond Club Lounge, and Flybe Lounge welcome passengers at Edinburgh Airport. It’s recommended that passengers book a spot at one of these lounges in advance.
The Servisair Executive Lounge is the only lounge that’s open to the public. All guests must have tickets upon entry, and children under the age of 12 are not allowed. This lounge is open daily from 05:00 until 20:30, except on Saturdays, as it closes early. There is a three hour stay limit at this executive lounge.
Some of the amenities available are drinks (including alcohol), light snacks, TV, newspapers and magazines. Guests can sit on leather chairs in an intimate setting that has more than 50 seats. For additional fees, guests can get internet access and use business desks. The Servisair Executive Lounge is located on the first floor, near gates 3 and 4 and public restrooms.
